Collaboration with NOAA Fisheries

NOAA Fisheries Service, with its mission of “stewardship of living marine resources,” shares countless goals with the Wild Whale Research Foundation. The WWRF has worked to increase the depth of knowledge of marine mammals by partnering with NOAA Fisheries Service on numerous projects, through several of their Science Centers.

The Wild Whale Research Foundation has also collaborated with:

  • The Southwest Fisheries Science Center of NOAA Fisheries, on studies of population structure of false killer whales
  • The Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center, on a study using a High-frequency Acoustic Recording Package (HARP) to acoustically monitor various species of toothed whales off the island of Hawai’i
  • The Northwest Fisheries Science Center, on studies of false killer whale pollutant levels
